How to generate Digital Filter Coefficient and test the Filter in Matlab

This blog post shows how to generate a digital filter coefficient for a given input signal and then test the filter with impulse input signal.

Matlab has a two functions that are in a way inverse to each other. These function are prony and filter. The prony function generates Z transform of input signal with filter coefficient. The filter function generates output impulse response in response to given filter coefficients and input signal. Delta signal can be used with the filter coefficient to test the filter.

First generate some input signal like the following,

n = [0:50];
x = sin(2*pi*n/25);

Then use this signal x to determine filter coefficients a,b with the help of prony matlab function as follows,

[b,a] = prony(x,2,2);

The syntax of this function is,

[b,a] =prony{x,M,N)

where x is the input signal, M is the number of zeros and N is the number of poles

We can plot the input signal x as follows,

plot(n,x,*)

The plot is,

Now, we use the a,b coefficients generated above and check whether these filter coefficients generates the same output x in response to an input delta impulse.

Define delta signal to apply to the filter,

d = [1 zeros(1,50)];

Then apply this delta input to the filter using filter matlab function to get the filter response y,

y = filter(b,a,d);

Now plot y,

We see that when first x signal generated a and b coefficients and these coefficient were used for a filter we get the same signal back y for an input delta signal.

Indeed, we may plot both x and y on the same graph to see the result,

plot(n,x,*,n,y,o)

which gives,

So in this way we can use the prone and filter matlab functions to generate filter coefficients and later utilize them to build a digital filter. So these function are quite useful in Digital Signal Processing work using matlab.

The Incredible Hulk Marvel Studios reacquired the rights to the character after the mixed reception to the 2003 film Hulk, and writer Zak Penn began work on a loose sequel that would be much closer to the comics and the television series. Norton rewrote the script after he signed on to star, clarifying the films new backstory. Leterrier redesigned Roths character, called the Abomination in the comics, from the comics reptilian humanoid into a monster with bony protrusions. Filming mostly took place in Toronto, Ontario in 2007, where the production attempted to be environmentally friendly. The film was No. 1 at its box office release out grossing its predecessor grossing over $260 million in worldwide, as well as No. 1 for the DVD release. Norton was initially intended to again portray Bruce Banner in The Avengers and other future installments featuring the character, but after talks broke down, he was replaced by Mark Ruffalo, who has signed on to reprise the role in all future sequels.

The Hulk destroys the lab and injures Betty. Banner becomes a fugitive from the U.S. military and Ross in particular, who wants to weaponize the Hulk process.

Five years later, Banner works at a bottling factory in Rocinha, Rio de Janeiro, while searching for a cure for his condition. On the Internet, he collaborates with a colleague he knows only as "Mr. Blue", and to whom he is "Mr. Green". He is also learning meditative breathing techniques from a martial arts expert (Rickson Gracie) to help keep control, and has not transformed in 158 days. After Banner cuts his finger, a drop of his blood falls into a bottle, and is eventually ingested by a consumer (Stan Lee) in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, creating medical complications.

Using the bottle to discover Banners location, Ross sends a team, led by Russian-born British Royal Marine Emil Blonsky (Tim Roth) to capture him. Banner transforms into the Hulk and defeats Blonskys team. After Ross explains how Banner became the Hulk, Blonsky agrees to be injected with a small amount of a serum developed as part of the same operation, which gives him enhanced speed, strength, agility and healing, but also begins to deform his skeleton. Banner returns to Culver University and reunites with Betty, who is dating psychiatrist Leonard Samson (Ty Burrell). Banner is attacked by Ross and Blonskys forces, tipped off by the suspicious Samson, causing his transformation into the Hulk. The Hulk dispatches Ross and Blonskys team and flees with Betty. After the Hulk reverts to Banner, he and Betty go on the run.

Banner contacts Mr. Blue, who urges them to meet him in New York City. He turns out to be cellular biologist Dr. Samuel Sterns (Tim Blake Nelson), who tells Banner he has developed a possible antidote to Banners condition. After a successful test, he warns Banner that the antidote may only reverse each individual transformation. Sterns reveals he has synthesized Banners blood samples, which Banner sent from Brazil, into a large supply, with the intention of applying its "limitless potential" to medicine. Fearful of the Hulks power falling into the militarys hands, Banner attempts to convince Sterns to destroy the blood supply. Ross forces attack and take Banner into custody with Betty.

Blonsky forces Sterns to inject him with Banners blood, as he covets the Hulks power. Sterns warns that the combination of the super-soldier formula and Banners blood may cause him to become an "abomination". Unconcerned, Blonsky forces Sterns to administer the blood and a gamma charge. The experiment mutates Blonsky into a creature with size and strength surpassing that of the Hulk. Abomination then attacks Sterns, who gets some of Banners blood into a cut on his forehead causing it to mutate him. Abomination then rampages through Harlem. Unlike Hulk, Abomination cannot revert back to normal Blonsky state.
